Earlier this month, a team of volunteers from Kirklees Council’s Our Cultural Heart project swapped hard hats for gloves to support vital environmental work at Huddersfield Riverside Nature Park.

Lead contractor BAM, together with Strategic Delivery Partner Turner & Townsend and other supply chain partners, teamed up with Environmental Projects in Kirklees (EPIKS) for a hands-on day maintaining the Kilner Bank track – an essential access route for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The team included Tom, Chris and Mackenzie from BAM; Jamie from Phoenix Brickwork; Nathan, Mikela, Franky and Vicki from EDSB; and Darren from Turner & Townsend. Guided by EPIKS Environmental Ranger Gilly, volunteers explored the attractive riverside space near Accu Stadium, which EPIKS manages in partnership with Huddersfield Town Football Club.

While the Our Cultural Heart scheme will transform Huddersfield town centre with a new food hall, library, museum and art gallery, and landmark outdoor spaces, this effort showcases the wider positive impact the project is already having across the community.
