People across Kirklees are being invited to help shape the future of Huddersfield town centre by choosing the name of a new public square at the heart of Our Cultural Heart.
The square will sit at the centre of Phase 1 of the development, alongside the new library hub and food hall. It will be a welcoming space for events, activities and everyday use in the town centre.
Now it needs a name!
From 8 June to 22 June, you can vote for your preferred option from a shortlist inspired by Huddersfield’s heritage and identity.
The shortlisted names
- Mill Frame Square
A name inspired by Huddersfield’s textile past, with a modern feel. It connects the town’s history with the new space being created at the heart of it. - Lions Square
A strong, confident name based on Huddersfield’s long-standing lion symbol. It reflects pride in the town and a sense of identity. - Queensgate Square
A familiar name that builds on what people already know, helping the new space feel instantly part of the town centre. - Ramsden Square
A name that recognises the Ramsden family and their role in shaping Huddersfield, linking the town’s past to its future.
